Miami-Dade County Local Business Tax Receipt (Home-Based)

All businesses operating in Miami-Dade County, including home-based cottage food operations, must obtain a Local Business Tax Receipt from the Miami-Dade County Tax Collector. The receipt is issued annually from October 1 through September 30. Home-based businesses must apply through BTExpress online and prominently display the receipt at their place of business.

City of Miami Business Tax Receipt (BTR)

Florida Cottage Food Operation — No State License Required

Under Florida's Cottage Food Law (originally enacted as HB 663 and subsequently amended), cottage food operators producing non-potentially-hazardous baked goods, candies, jams, and similar products are exempt from state food establishment licensing by FDACS and are not inspected by any state agency. Annual gross sales must not exceed $250,000. All products must bear a label stating: 'Made in a cottage food operation that is not subject to Florida's food safety regulations' in at least 10-point font.
