2. Connecticut DEEP Pesticide Applicator Certification (supervisory or operational)

   Commercial pesticide application in Connecticut is certified by CT DEEP's Pesticide Management Program, not licensed by any local agency. There are two tiers. A supervisory applicator - the level a pest control firm needs so it can supervise others - must be at least 18, register on eLicense, pass a written exam scored at 75% or better within three hours (up to three categories per registration, minimum 30 days between retakes of the same category), and then pass an in-person oral examination for most categories at 79 Elm Street in Hartford. An operator, or commercial junior operator, works under a certified supervisor and takes the written exam only. Exams are proctored online by Everblue, which gives 60 days to sit the exam once its fee is paid; the DEEP exam itself must be taken within 90 days of paying the exam fee.

If it later employs or subcontracts any additional certified applicator, the fee becomes due. Arborist businesses out for hire to perform arboriculture have registered since October 1, 2013 with no single-arborist exemption. Registrants must update their online account within 30 days of any change of name, address, email, phone, responsible person or certified supervisor.

   New Haven issues no blanket general business license renewed annually and displayed at the place of business, and Connecticut has no statewide one. The city's Licenses & Permits index routes 'Business License' to the Permit & License Center, whose licences are strictly category-specific - Amusement, Auction and Auctioneer, Broker, Rooming House, Sales and Street Vendor/Peddler - with applications presented in person. 2. New Haven zoning compliance and Certificate of Occupancy for a pest control base

   There is no New Haven County business registration - Connecticut abolished county government in 1960. If you run a pest control business from a commercial office or vehicle depot in New Haven, get a certificate of zoning compliance from the City Plan Department and a Certificate of Occupancy from the City of New Haven Building Department for the space. Pesticide applicators themselves are certified by CT DEEP, not by the city.
