Commercial Pesticide Applicator / Dealer License (no separate company license)
South Dakota does not issue a separate pest control company license or business registration. SD DANR licenses the individual commercial pesticide applicator: each person applying pesticides to the land of another for hire must pass the commercial category G (General/core) exam plus the category exams matching their work, then buy a commercial applicator license. A pesticide dealer license is required only for a location that distributes restricted-use pesticides in South Dakota - each such location needs its own dealer license. Both run two years and renew by the last day of February in the expiration year.
Official government source$35 commercial pesticide applicator license (2-year term); $75 pesticide dealer license, only if a location distributes restricted-use pesticides. Certification exam fees are charged separately by the SDSU Extension testing site.Exams are taken by appointment at an SDSU Extension testing site; the license is issued once the exams are passed and the fee is paid

2 stopsSouth Dakota DANR - Commercial Pesticide Applicator License
Commercial pesticide applicators in South Dakota are certified and licensed by the SD Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) - the former standalone Department of Agriculture merged into DANR, and sdda.sd.gov now redirects to danr.sd.gov. You are a commercial applicator if you apply pesticides to the land of another for hire. Every applicant must pass the commercial category G (General/core) certification exam plus each additional category exam that matches the work performed; exams are scheduled at SDSU Extension testing locations. Certification and licensure run two years and must be recertified and renewed by the last day of February in the expiration year.

No Aberdeen General Business License Required
Aberdeen does not issue a general business license. The City Finance Office (Auditor Division, 605-626-7023) issues licenses only for a specific enumerated list of activities: ambulance driver, ambulance service, garbage hauler, community event, day care, junk dealer, lottery notice, mobile home park, pawn broker, street use, shooting gallery, special event alcohol, taxi/motorbus company, taxi/motorbus driver, transient merchant/solicitor, and alcohol. Trades such as plumbing, HVAC, and pest control are not on that list and need no city business license. Their state-level licensing applies instead: plumbing through the SD Plumbing Commission, pesticide application through SD DANR, and there is no statewide HVAC or mechanical contractor license. A South Dakota sales tax license from the Department of Revenue is still required.
