   Each barber must hold a Connecticut master barber licence issued by the Department of Public Health under CGS Chapter 386. CGS Sec. 20-236 requires completion of the eighth grade, a course of not less than 1,000 hours at an approved barber school (or a Labor Department-approved apprenticeship), and a passing score on the department's written examination; a barber already licensed in another state on the basis of comparable training and an examination may be licensed here without re-examination for the same fee. The licence card must be posted in a conspicuous place in front of the barber's chair. Connecticut no longer registers barber shops - CGS Sec. 20-240 was repealed - though DPH inspects shops for sanitary condition under CGS Sec. 20-241.

   New Haven issues no blanket general business license renewed annually and displayed at the place of business, and Connecticut has no statewide one.
