  1. Washington Business Registration

Event planning businesses operating in Washington must register with the Washington Secretary of State if operating as an LLC, corporation, or partnership. Sole proprietors using a trade name register that name through the Washington Department of Revenue's Business License Application, not with a county clerk. An LLC provides personal liability protection, which matters when coordinating large events.

Expedited processing costs an extra $100 per entity.Standard processing is not same-week; expedited filings are generally processed within three working days for an extra $100, and same-day service is available in person for $150.

  2. Washington Sales Tax Permit (if applicable)

Event planning coordination services are taxed in Washington under the Service and Other Activities B&O classification and are not subject to retail sales tax. Washington issues no standalone sales tax permit; collection authority is granted through the Department of Revenue Business License Application.
