Nail salons operating in New York City require an Appearance Enhancement Establishment License from the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP). NYC Department of Buildings — Certificate of Occupancy

All nail salons in New York State must be licensed by the New York State Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. The Appearance Enhancement Business License (Nail Specialty Shop) requires an application, payment of fees, and passing an on-site inspection. Compliance with New York General Business Law Article 27 is required. The salon must meet sanitation, ventilation, and equipment standards.
Individual Nail Technician License (per employee)
Every nail technician working in the salon must hold a valid New York State Nail Specialty License issued by the NY Department of State, Division of Licensing Services. This requires completing an approved 250-hour nail specialty program, passing a written exam, and paying a license fee.
New York State Sales Tax Certificate of Authority
