   Alaska has no separate nail technician board — manicurists are licensed under the Board of Barbers and Hairdressers (AS 08.13.070) at DCCED CBPL, and a person may not practice manicuring in the state without a license or temporary permit. In-state applicants must complete a board-approved 12-hour manicuring course in health, safety, and hygiene and pass the manicurist written exam (offered in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and Korean). Applicants already licensed in another state are exempt from the 12-hour course, and those with 250 or more training hours plus a written exam may apply for the Manicurist with Advanced Endorsement license. Licenses run two years and expire August 31 of odd-numbered years.
