    Applying pesticides for hire in Maine - including structural and home pest control - requires a commercial applicator licence from the Maine Board of Pesticides Control (DACF). Technicians hold the Commercial Operator licence and work under a licensed Commercial Master; every company, branch office or agency must have at least one Commercial Master. Certification requires passing the Core exam plus one or more category exams (category 7A Structural General Pest Control, 7F Termite Pests and so on); Master applicants also pass a regulations exam and an oral exam. A pest control company must additionally hold a separate Firm licence and file an affidavit of insurance coverage.

Where one does apply, most types need Zoning, Health, Code Enforcement, Fire, Police (SBI background check) and Treasury approvals first, and outstanding taxes or sewer fees will block issuance.
