   HVAC work in Wichita is licensed locally by MABCD, the joint City of Wichita and Sedgwick County building agency, not by the Kansas Department of Labor, which licenses no building trades. An individual must hold a MABCD Journeyman or Master Mechanical trade certificate, earned by passing an approved ICC or IAPMO exam plus documented field experience and trade school; the business must separately hold a MABCD Mechanical (or Air Conditioner & Heating) trade contractor license. 2. City of Wichita — No General Business License for Most Businesses

   Wichita does not require a general business license. The city's own Business Licenses page states it 'does not require a standard business license for all businesses that operate within the City limits — only for certain businesses,' and lists those categories: adult entertainment, advertising, animals, cemeteries, entertainment, lodging and residential (including Home Occupation and short-term rentals), sales and services (liquor, massage therapy, mobile food vendor, pawnbroker, precious metal dealer, secondhand dealer, tobacco, transient merchant and similar), security, special events, transportation, and wells. Businesses outside those categories need no city business license.
