   HVAC contracting in Alaska requires a Mechanical Administrator license from the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing (CBPL), in the applicable category — Residential HVAC (RHVC), Unlimited HVAC/Sheet Metal (UHVCS), Heating, Cooling and Process Piping, Temperature Control, or Unlimited Refrigeration — obtained by exam. CBPL states plainly that it staffs the mechanical administrator program and that the Department of Labor’s Mechanical Inspection Section regulates plumbers, not HVAC contractors. The contracting business must also hold Alaska construction contractor registration with a bond and insurance.
