   Events using Chicago public parks, streets, plazas, or other public venues need a Special Event Permit from DCASE (festivals, street and art fairs, and athletic events; marketing activations are not permitted on public rights-of-way). The nonrefundable processing fee depends on how far in advance your application is complete -- meaning all required documents submitted, not merely started -- rising from $100 at 180-60 days out to $2,000 at 28-21 days out; applications are not accepted within 21 days of the event. Proof of general liability insurance and a site or traffic plan are typically required.
