   Connecticut does not require a pressure washing business to carry general liability insurance as a condition of operating - there is no state licence for the trade and no statutory minimum coverage. 2. Stormwater discharge compliance for pressure washing (New Haven)

   Pressure washing wastewater carrying detergents, oils or other pollutants may not be allowed to enter storm drains. New Haven is covered by CT DEEP's MS4 general permit, which requires the city to prohibit illicit non-stormwater discharges to its storm sewer system. Operators are expected to contain wash water - berms, booms or vacuum recovery - and dispose of it to the sanitary sewer or another approved receiving point. 3. New Haven Trade Name (DBA) Certificate

   A contractor trading under a name other than the owner's own legal name must file a trade name certificate with the New Haven City Clerk before taking jobs under it. CGS Sec. 35-1a requires the filing in the town where the business is principally transacted, on a form prescribed by the Secretary of the State, executed by each applicant (or an authorised officer for a company) and acknowledged before an officer qualified to administer oaths. A natural-person application gives the trade name, the physical business address in the town of filing, a business email address and each owner's full name, address and email. Connecticut abolished county government in 1960, so there is no New Haven County filing office; note also that CGS Sec. 35-1 was repealed effective January 1, 2025 and replaced by Secs. 35-1a to 35-1e.
