   Every business operating inside Fairbanks city limits needs a City Business License from the City Clerk’s Office (800 Cushman Street, 907-459-6702), in addition to the Alaska state business license. Each separate line of business needs its own license. Licenses expire the last day of January and renew by the last business day of February; the City will not issue a building permit to a business without a valid license.

2. Alaska Business Name (DBA) Registration

   If you operate under a name other than your legal or registered entity name, the DBA name is carried on your Alaska business license — one business license covers one DBA name, so a second trade name requires a second $50 business license from the Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing. Separately and optionally, you may file a Business Name Registration (form 08-557) under AS 10.35 to claim exclusive rights to that name for five years; it requires a current Alaska business license in the identical name.
