   Each barber practicing in Alaska must hold a Barber License from the Board of Barbers and Hairdressers (DCCED Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing). Applicants need 1,650 hours of training in an approved school or 2,000 hours in an approved apprenticeship program, and must pass the written and practical examinations administered by the board's vendor (Prov). A Non-Chemical Barber license requires 1,350 school hours or 1,600 apprenticeship hours. Licenses run two years and expire August 31 of odd-numbered years.

   Every business operating inside Fairbanks city limits needs a City Business License from the City Clerk’s Office (800 Cushman Street, 907-459-6702), in addition to the Alaska state business license. Each separate line of business needs its own license. Licenses expire the last day of January and renew by the last business day of February; the City will not issue a building permit to a business without a valid license.
