   Alaska's Division of Corporations, Business and Professional Licensing does not license plumbers. Work subject to the Alaska Plumbing Code (AS 18.60.705) requires a Certificate of Fitness from the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development, Labor Standards and Safety Division, Mechanical Inspection Section. Plumber Journeyman requires 8,000 verified hours of experience (8 AAC 90.130 and 8 AAC 90.890); Plumber Restricted Gas requires 4,000 hours and Plumber Restricted Utility 1,000 hours. All applicants must pass the state test. Plumbing permits come from the local authority having jurisdiction — inside City of Fairbanks limits that is the City Building Department, which charges $15 per fixture plus a $35 permit issuance fee; the Fairbanks North Star Borough issues no plumbing permits.

   A plumbing permit is required from the City of Fairbanks Building Department (907-459-6720) for each job inside city limits, with inspections on completion.
