1. Alaska Real Estate Commission — Salesperson License

   Real estate salespersons in Alaska are licensed by the Alaska Real Estate Commission at DCCED CBPL (550 West 7th Avenue, Suite 1500, Anchorage, 907-269-8160). Applicants must complete 40 hours of pre-licensing education (the completion certificate is valid only 18 months), pass the licensing examination, and be affiliated with a licensed broker. Within one year of initial licensure, 30 hours of post-licensing education must be completed and reported on form 08-4326; 20 hours of continuing education is required to renew. Licenses run two years and expire January 31 of even-numbered years. Upgrading to broker requires 30 hours of broker upgrade education and a $120 transfer of license fee.

2. No Anchorage General Business License (state license only)

   The Municipality of Anchorage does not issue a general business license or business tax certificate. Nearly all businesses need only the Alaska state business license from DCCED/CBPL. The Municipal Clerk's Office separately licenses a short list of regulated activities — adult-oriented establishments, pawnbrokers, private detective agencies, roving vendors and ice cream trucks, tow operators, used-automobile display lots, teen nightclubs and cultural performance venues, circuses/carnivals/fairs, short-term rentals, and marijuana establishments — so check with the Clerk only if your business is on that list.
