Houston / Harris County Requirements
Harris County Assumed Name Certificate (DBA)
If you operate your photography business under any name other than your legal personal name (e.g., 'Houston Portrait Studio' instead of your legal name), you must file an Assumed Name Certificate with the Harris County Clerk. Filing can be done in person at any of the 11 Harris County Clerk locations or by mail. Certificates are valid for 1–10 years.
Harris County Property Tax Rendition
All businesses with tangible personal property (equipment, cameras, lenses, computers) used for business in Harris County must file a business personal property rendition with the Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) by April 15 each year.
