Chicago requires a Motor Vehicle Repair (MVR) license for all auto repair shops operating within city limits. Most full-service shops need Class II or III. The license is valid for two years. Requirements include a facility plan with dimensions, Illinois Department of Revenue Account ID, and FEIN. The facility must have at least 25-foot frontage on a public street.
Chicago Zoning and Building Permit
