   Juneau requires businesses to register with the Finance Department Sales Tax Office before making sales, rendering services, or renting property in CBJ (not a general business license).    Alaska has no Secretary of State and no counties, and the City and Borough of Juneau does not register DBAs — CBJ Finance only needs to be notified of a business name change for sales tax purposes. Per the DCCED/CBPL Business Licensing FAQ, a separate Alaska business license is required for each different name a business operates or advertises under, so a DBA/AKA/trade name is obtained by taking out an additional state business license in that name. Exclusive rights to a name are a separate matter handled by the CBPL Corporations Section under AS 10.06: a Business Name Reservation lasts 120 days, and a Business Name Registration lasts five years and requires a current business license.
